Not a medical or scientific professional

Twenty-three-plus years with Crohn's disease, one co-founder of Ecolosophy, and a question that finally got asked: what's actually in the products touching this home? Italo Campilii spent those 23+ years in and out of hospitals before he started examining — and removing — the chemical products he was living with. His life changed after that. He is not a doctor, a toxicologist, or a scientist, and he does not claim that removing those products cured his Crohn's disease. What he can speak to, first-hand, is what changed in his own home and his own daily life once he stopped guessing what was in the bottles under his sink.

Why he writes about household chemical products

Italo is a co-founder of Ecolosophy — not a sole founder; Ecolosophy was built with three other co-founders, Elizabeth, John, and Miguel. He is not a medical professional, not a toxicologist, and not a research scientist, and nothing on this site should be read as medical advice. His qualification to write about this subject is lived experience: 23+ years of hospitalizations, flare-ups, and treatments — some that worked, some that didn't — that led him to start reading labels and asking what was actually in the chemical products he kept in his own home.

He never credits any product with curing his Crohn's disease, and neither does Ecolosophy. What he writes about is narrower and more honest than that: what he found when he started reading ingredient labels, and what he chose to remove from his own house as a result.

Before and after

Before and after: Italo in a hospital gown, masked, holding an IV pole in a hospital room, next to a photo of Italo healthy on a Hawaiian beach, smiling, with mountains and ocean behind him
Left: a hospital room during one of many Crohn's disease flare-ups, over 23+ years. Right: Italo years later, on a beach in Hawaii. Ecolosophy did not cause this change on its own — but examining and removing the chemical products in his home was part of what changed for him along the way.

This is not a medical claim. Crohn's disease is a chronic condition with many contributing factors and treatments. Italo is not a doctor and this page does not claim that any product treated, cured, or prevented his disease.

How his work gets checked

Every article Italo is credited on at Ecolosophy is reviewed by the Ecolosophy team before it publishes. Ecolosophy fully discloses the ingredients in its own products — every ingredient, every product, published and named, not hidden behind "fragrance" or a trade-secret blend. When an error is found in a published article, it gets corrected in place; Ecolosophy does not have a separate, formal published corrections policy beyond that at this time, and this page will be updated if that changes.
