The Under-the-Sink Challenge
Open the cabinet. Count the bottles.
Most homes hold 15 to 25 cleaning products under one sink. Most of them do the same job. This week, find out what yours are doing.
How it works
Empty the cabinet onto the counter.
Count the bottles and add up what they cost.
Photograph it.
Replace what you can with one concentrate and three sprayers, then photograph it again.
The part nobody tells you
“Fragrance” can legally hide dozens of undisclosed chemicals.
Whatever you spray is what stays on the surfaces you touch.
One concentrate makes 100+ bottles, so the cabinet does not need to be full.
What to look for on a label
| On the label | What it means |
|---|---|
| Fragrance / Parfum | Undisclosed mix |
| Quats (benzalkonium chloride) | Skin and lung irritant per manufacturers' SDS |
| Dyes | Color only, no cleaning function |
